Optima Consultancy was engaged by Visa and Mastercard to develop a proof-of-concept bulk reporting application for producing itemised invoices for merchants using PDQ machines. The project aimed to demonstrate the feasibility of providing detailed data reporting, coupled with downstream analytics capabilities, to empower merchant clients.

Challenge

The primary challenge was ingesting thousands of moving rates from suppliers into a system capable of accurately clustering and segregating the customer base. The solution needed to account for variable card transaction rates, discounts, and individual deals while producing accurate, itemised PDQ invoices for merchants across the UK.

Solution

• Implemented OCR technologies alongside data quality controls to ingest static rates data.

• Designed and deployed an ingestion process to handle rate updates dynamically.

• Developed a custom application leveraging SQL Server Reporting Services to generate over 200,000 reports nightly.

• Validated outputs against bulk import data to ensure accuracy and reliability.

• Designed and tuned a scalable database hosted on cloud infrastructure.
